I’m a musician and people have been saying this about us for decades as well. Oh we shouldn’t get paid b/c just making the music should make us feel good. That’s great, but feel good won’t buy my groceries. I work hard at what I do and deserve fair and just compensation for it. So do writers. So do artists. Society would completely suck without us. Imagine it – CPAs and lawyers everywhere. I’m bored just typing it.

Your comments are fair. I do love the idea of writing and publishing a book – but, it’s definitely easier to say than do. My “ideas” never seem to get much more than a few pages. And its true for many projects we take on. If I had more time I would: finish that garage project, knitting a scarf, volunteer morel. However, I admit we probably don’t give enough due to writers.

Thanks for the books (personally I love Steelflower!) and keep your spirits up!

It is one thing to write, it is quite another thing for what you’ve written to be published. The distinction is all about someone, author included, deriving income. I suspect even the greats, like Orwell, were not imune to this equation.
