A Few More Things
A few more things, since I’m still tender today.
* Luck is a skill. This makes sense–the luckier I feel, the luckier I am. Maybe I should grab Wiseman’s book and give it a go. It’d be better than sitting around feeling unloved, unwanted, and waaaaaaaah. (Much better.)
* Martha Beck on who to trust. This article made SO MUCH SENSE to me. In a “why didn’t I think of it this way before?” way.
* How the books we save for posterity get selected.
So, today, an experiment. I’m going to focus on being lucky. I’ll tell you how it works out tomorrow.
ETA: I did get the best pictures up from the shooting expedition the other night. Here they are.

An interesting idea, luck as a skill, but the article was more on the perception of people than the actual tides of fortune.
I think luck is one of those two edged words, either good or bad. My brother is plenty lucky on both sides.
On the negative side, his car’s gotten struck by lightening, lost his job on his birthday one year, lost it just after his birthday and a new car purchase this year.
On the other hand, he had someone call and ask him to go to Brazil a few hours later (for which you need a passport and a visa, both of which my brother had), someone saw him at a comedy night then called to offer him an interview to be a comedy writer for 30 Rock.
Sure he managed the downs and was prepared for the ups, but you can’t positive feeling your way out of a lightening strike. It’s all in how you recover from the voltage and singed eyebrows.

Luck is far more about perceiving opportunity and being ready to take advantage of it than anything else. You really do make your own luck.

I also found this book illuminating: The Wishing Year: A House, a Man, My Soul A Memoir of Fulfilled Desire by Noelle Oxenhandler. http://tiny.cc/IGcop

I’m sure that your luck focus will come in handy. I’m sure that it will be just fine. Today is another day. Continue to hang in there Lilith.

I agree, I feel lucky so therefore I am. My heart stopped but I was lucky someone was in the room to call for help. My appendix ruptured but I was lucky it happened in the hospital. Living with someone whose glass is not only empty but thinks everyone else has a better glass, I have learned that you have to FEEL lucky to be lucky. Watch for it and it will happen to you too.
