As I understand it, when the book starts doing its own thing and ignoring what you want it to do, then you are on the right track. Not very helpful, I know, when you feel like you have to dump thousands of well-written words. I was actually thrilled the first time my characters started doing things I didn’t tell them to do. It was like they were coming through me, not from me. Good luck.

Life is a blinking cursor! At least for writers. I totally know what you mean by that blank look of “vapor-lock.” My kids look at me like I’m crazy when I do that. It happens more often than I like to admit.

Being a writer SUCKS, but what it comes down to is the honest truth: I couldn’t stop even if I tried to. You couldn’t either.

Piece of advice if the book isn’t going where your going simply write down the story and then dump it in your reject pile. I get this occasionally with some stories I’m typing so I just write down on paper the story line and then after that I feel much better. I also find my story goes back on track where I want it to go. That’s from writing down the new story idea and tossing it in the reject pile.
