My Kingdom For Some Caramel TimTams

Ah, Wednesday. You were supposed to be my day off. You weren’t supposed to be a mad scramble. But alas, that is how you’re going to turn out. So today’s post is linkies too, because I have not a coherent thought in my head past surviving the next joust with Fate and editing. Either together or separately, they’re looking to whup me.

* If you can, check out Peter Beagle’s 52/50 project. If song lyrics and poems aren’t it for you, check out how you can get signed copies of Peter’s books through Conlan Press. (That link will take you to audiobooks, too, read by the man himself.)

This is an unbelievably good chance to get signed books and original work from someone I don’t hesitate to call one of the finest writers ever to put pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard.) From the classic The Last Unicorn and A Fine and Private Place to (what I consider his best book) The Innkeeper’s Song, Peter Beagle is just plain phenomenally amazing. He’s also struggling financially, through no fault of his own. He’s a national treasure, and I like to encourage people to buy and read his books (and give them as gifts) whenever I can.

* I don’t think I’d ever get this close to a volcano, but I’ll look at the pictures all day and then some.

* Jeff Bezos just unloaded a bunch of Amazon stock. Hmmmmmm.

* Want existential hilarity? Take Garfield (the comic strip), translate the dialogue into Japanese, then translate it back into English. Hilarity ensues.

* Speaking of comics and hilarity…I love Comics Curmudgeon, and Josh also is a pretty handy article writer (his Laptop Gender Wars piece gave me food for thought.)

* And an LA Times piece on the Dharma Punx’s founder. I am all for taking the message to the people in a peer system instead of a strict hierarchy.

In other news, Strange Angels debuts soon, and I am a pile of nerves. I am going to get nutty as a fruitcake, the way I do before every damn release. Just pass me some tranquilizers and a lorry-load of choco, will you?

You probably know about it, but for the education of others I must mention “Garfield Minus Garfield” (http://garfieldminusgarfield.net/).

    Take “Garfield”, and remove Garfield.

Marvelous, in an absurdist dementia kind of way.

Watch it… I may take you up on that. I thought they were an Aussie only thing until I came across a stack full at my local Canadian grocery store. I am using the availability of ‘em to entice my sis up from Down Under to visit, and I am not afraid to you them to gain a kingdom (or other such goodies!).

Of course saw them a few weeks ago; not sure if they are still there. May have just been because of a misdirected shipment. Still… if desparate let me know and I’ll go find out if they are still there.

Oh, and this Engrish translation is funny too!

Is that where mad scientists go to learn language skills? Like how to announce ‘I’m going to take over the world’ in English, Spanish and Mandarin?

  6. Kat Says:

Sorry… link for Engrish didn’t attach.

Thanks for the links — I have thoroughly enjoyed both days’ worth. No worries — I am positive Strange Angels will do wonderfully!

I can no longer eat tim-tams, as they contain chocolate, which contains caffeine. I will generously donate my share to you.

Tim Tams are making inroads into the Northern American continent…..they will eventually take over the world. Once you have tried them, resistance is futile.

Or it’s the fact Arnott’s is now owned by a US company & they know a new addiction when they see it!

Down here the plethora of varieties has begun to wear thin, though I must when they did the “After Dinner” line ….mmmm (Kahlua, Tia Maria, Baileys…..).

Alas I can no longer have Tim Tams (a tragedy my son & partner have taken on the chin, picking up the slack for ‘the team’). They contain of the dairy products and since cows are having their revenge for my eating of their flesh, Tim Tams are now forbidden food.

But……have found a vegan option that is so very, very close to the originals………
