I know I'm late to the party but I wonder what you think about Amazon "caving" and allowing publishers/authors to decide on a book-by-book basis whether to allow or bar the reading technology? I'm seeing a lot of people like it, but I don't see how it addresses the issue directly, just concedes it's disputed. . . because for those who allow it, will they get any money off it?

Thanks so much! This really helps a lot. All this time I thought I was the only one with this sort of fear! Although you're right, anxiety is a better word for it. After hearing so many people tell me that to become a "real writer," you can't have these feelings of anxiety or be sensitive to rejection, it's nice to hear that it's actually okay to have them if you can manage to keep going anyway.

Thank you for taking the time to write this! It means a lot to me.

Like roulette, the odds are astronomically against you.

But the only way to guarantee you will NEVER win is to not play.

Fortunately, this game's a lot cheaper than roulette. If you pay attention, you learn something from it every time you lose. And by standing at that table and putting your chips down over and over again, you're at least triumphing over those who give up or refuse to play at all.

(Okay, I think I've beaten this metaphor to enough of a pulp.)
