I’ve gotten in the habit of beating myself up with the excuse it’ll toughen me up for when somebody else comes after me with a hammer. I know that’s not good, but decades-old habits are tough to shake.

THANK YOU for this post. I really struggle with confidence when I’m writing – I’m on my 3rd and 4th novels (and no longer have the excuse of being <18) and sometimes I despair of reaching “readable”, let alone the dizzy heights of “decent”. I hope I can learn to be gentler.
