We’re Chill. No, Really.
Yup. Twenty degrees outside. Big bloody storm going on, arctic air, high winds, snow yesterday and coldcoldcold today. More light snow forecast for Wednesday. I’ve closed up the house, put the shields on the outside faucets, and I’ve got the heaters going. This is an excellent time for me to bake those triple-ginger gingersnaps I’ve got the dough saved for. And since I’m getting a late late start today, we’re going to have a Bulleted List.
* The soup is cooking. (I should roast turkeys more often.) Christmas is going to be ham. I might even get crazy and do yams. (But probably not–nobody here likes them.)
* It’s short story time. Which means I’m going to be banging my head into the wall. Further bulletins as events warrant.
* It’s also Speed Training Week! This is the week I do speed-training on Wednesday instead of taking it as a day off. I am not going to tell anyone in this house that the Swedish word for speed-training is fartlek. I mean, you can just imagine, can’t you? ANYWAY. We’re ushering in a period of mixed endurance and speed training, because I’ve achieved a moderate level of fitness and want to start busting some serious butt.
* Branches scraping against the side of the house during windstorms like this DO sound like flesh-stripped, bony fingers. CREEPY.
* I will be making biscuits from this Irish Soda Bread mix. If it works well, I might be tempted to try making soda bread by hand. Hijinks will ensue.
* Why am I always tempted to put menstruation in teen vampire stories? Maybe because one of the best “teen” vampire books (that wasn’t strictly a teen vampire book) I ever read featured it as a subtext. Or maybe I’m just wired weird. It’s the same reason incest always pops up in my werewolf trunk novels. My neurons, they conspire against me.
* Senate report links Bush to detainee homicides; media yawns. Yeah. Umm-hmm. Great.
* I should buy wrapping paper. But I don’t want to. We all know how I feel about the holidays. Anyway.
That’s all I’ve got. Short stories ahoy!
