From The Flu To Kathleen Turner

Five things today, because I am still exhausted:

* This book is quickly becoming teh awesome.

* When I was a massage therapist, I was always on my clients to not go back to heavy lifting the moment they felt a little better. That’s the point at which the work done to restore a body is the most fragile and easily undone. A little bit of rest then will save you lots and lots of agony later. Which is why I am kicking myself for trying to get EVERYTHING done yesterday. Which has provoked a relapse, though thankfully without the fever. Which leads me to…

* This flu/cold thing has really kicked my ass. It’s more flulike because my entire body hurts in that sick-sick-squeezing out sick toxins sort of way, which is different than a workout ache. And it’s more cold-like in that I sound like Kathleen Turner.

*Oh, wow, man. Kathleen Turner.

I love this movie. The heroine’s a writer, and she kicks major ass. There’s also Michael Douglas with a mullet at the end. How on earth can you resist? And the chase scene in Little Mule.

* The novel is going…well, it’s going well in that there’s wordcount. NaNo is good for that. But it is profoundly sucking. First drafts suck, it’s the nature of the beast. But every time it’s like I’ve forgotten how MUCH they suck. *headdesk* And trying to juggle plot balls while I’m so sick I barely want to take a shower or get dressed? When it’s all I can do to feed the kids PB&Js? Waaaah. Mega fun.

I have to go blow my nose now. And then slog through some more wordcount. Last night I actually got so upset with a scene that I decided to throw an assassination attempt in just to liven things up. When all else fails, send in the man with the gun.

Only he’s a vampire, and he’s got these cool butterfly knives…

Catch you later, Readers. ;)

One of my favorite movies. If I was a full-time writer I’d probably be the same way with the post-it notes as I use them a lot now.

Still trying to find my writing style. Or how I write. We shall see. I’m hoping (see name) it clicks one day.

I look forward to your books so much, quote you all the time.

    Hope you feel better soon!

I think I’ve seen that movie about a hundred times. I taped it off of HBO as a kid and watched it over and over.

    You’re nothing but a mondo-dismal.

One of the most effective methods to get rid of flu I ever experimented: sweat it out. As soon as you can stay upright without the room starting to spin, push-ups, sit-ups, treadmill, whatever you prefer, until you’re soaked. And then a good, hot-as-you-can-stand-it shower. :)

Oh, and if you keep having to blow your nose, acetylcysteine is TEH THING. ;)

Permit me to say I’m glad my NaNo novel isn’t the only one sucking right now. : ) But that’s why god created revising. Hope you get some rest.

I LOVE that movie. (The sequel is not as good, but still fun.) I think I will go churn out my NaNo word count, now, and maybe reward myself with watching it again. (It the movie, not it the NaNovel.)

[...] Saintcrow’s thought of calling it a Zero Draft instead of a First Draft. And much though I share her love of “Romancing the Stone,” I must remember that no one - outside of fiction - ever types in a perfect draft on a typewriter, [...]
