Doing NaNo This Year

Yep, you read that right. I’m participating in NaNoWriMo, which is National Novel-Writing Month. I need to knock out the second book in the YA series, so this is a tailor-made opportunity for me to get some motivation. Hey, every little bit helps.

If you’re doing NaNo too, you can find me here. I encourage people to try NaNo all the time, mostly because it’s a great way to get used to the idea of just having to get some words out. Of course, sometimes there’s also a lot of pressure, and people flame out under the burden of that pressure. But…if you’re going to flame out under the pressure of a self-chosen thing like NaNo, it may be that you want to reconsider writing under deadline for things like, oh, you know, money. I think NaNo is a great idea and a great way to get used to the feeling of deadlines, which pretty much every serious writer I know talks about.

And I have a couple months to finish that book, so the pressure to finish is more like a guideline than a hard and fast rule. But I really did have to stick to my guns over having enough time to finish all the projects I’m signed up for. It was hard to do.

Anyway, the chicken for tacos is simmering, all the other taco fixins are ready, and I’m going to spend a little time getting to know one of the short stories I need to turn in soon.

Life is good.

Hi! Love your books. Yes, participate in NANO please so you can publish more and I can purchase more and get even more addicted. Thanks!

NaNo’s site is going through it’s normal yearly “omgwtfbbq” the day before NaNo. Can’t get it to load right now, but I’ll definitely add you later when their servers stop gasping and wheezing (they need to feed that poor hamster! or get some buddies for it, or something). I’m under “Sassee.” I know, right? Not obvious at all. Could never tell it was me.

Are you doing the traditional 50k words or shooting for something higher? 60k? 70k? 500k? (yes, someone did that… my mind, it are boggled)

Is it weird that I already have that possibly first scene boiling up in the back of my brain with the scents and terror laid on way too thick? Seriously, I want to start writing it, RIGHT NOW… but, I’ll be good and wait til midnight. >.<

I’m NaNoing this year as well, registered as UppityRib. I “won” last year but I don’t think I’d call what I wrote a novel… “mess” is closer to the truth. T-minus eleven hours…

    Hey Lili,
Yep Im doing Nano again, however I decided that I’d set myself a new challenge, instead of getting a book done this time Ive set myself the goal of getting the new issue of Falcata Times done for release on December 10th. So yeah Ive got an absolute ton of work to do. Over 2 months of work condensed into just over one.

Yep probably sounds insane but Ive got it going now and I’ve hit around the 15K word count now.

Dammit Im on as drosdelnoch over there.
