Submissions Call, Breaking Dawn, And More!

Whew. It was a busy, busy weekend. I had a great time, but I’m glad to be back at work. I spent yesterday adding 6K in revisions to Strange Angels, and I don’t think I’m quite done yet. *headdesk* Agh.

So, today it’s a bulleted list.

* First, a submissions call! A friend (and anthology editor), Trisha Telep, is looking at an agency spot–as in, she will be an agent. Trisha edited the Mammoth Book of Vampire Romance, and is a very sweet lady who knows tons about publishing. She asked if I could get her some submissions and I said I couldn’t, but I bet my Readers could.

So. If you are UNPUBLISHED (i.e., have no novel-length work contracted or published; I believe short stories are OK), and have a YA proposal (good) or sample chapters (better), Trisha would like to hear from you. These are electronic submissions; send your sample chapters (best) or proposal (okay) to her AS AN ATTACHMENT WITH A COVER LETTER here. Basically she needs to show the agency her instincts when it comes to salable submissions. And if you wow her, you’ll have wowed a potential agent/agency. I think it’s a win for everyone involved. Please feel free to spread this submissions call, as Trish needs a sizable pool of entries.

Disclaimer and directions time: This isn’t a guaranteed offer of representation, it’s a submissions call. I will not be accepting, judging, or even looking at submissions, this is all Trisha’s game. Submissions should be sent as a Word ’97-2003 Compatible doc, double-space and 12 pt in a clear readable font (Courier is good). Don’t forget your name, title, and page numbers in the header. Your cover letter should include your name, a way of contacting you, and a little bit about the attached sample–whether the manuscript is finished, how long it is, why Trisha should read it. Last but not least, good luck!

* The Breaking Dawn Release Party went well. I think everyone was surprised at how easily I got almost 400 teenagers screaming with excitement. (Hint: It’s easier if you have a PA system. And if they’re rabid fans of the book about to be released. It really wasn’t me at all.) Jeff Davis and Al Eufrasio were there signing Weird Washington, I had a few books of my own to sign, and everyone was really excited to be there. Mad props to Rhonda, Joe, and all the booksellers that made the release possible–there was even CAKE! WEDDING CAKE! And most of all, thanks to all the fans that brought their friends and family to celebrate the release of book 4. Stephenie Meyer is lucky to have such awesome Readers. *ahem* Almost as awesome as my Readers. *grin*

Big props also to the Selkie, who was a champ all through the event. I hear pictures are forthcoming.

* I am judging fairytale contest entries and reading a short for a friend today. And plugging away at small gaps in the YA. It’s in Book That Will Not Die territory now. *headbonkety* If you’re looking for a reply from me on something, please be patient. San Diego and Olympia both knocked my schemes of working right out of the running and I’m scrambling to catch up–even more than usual. I mean, it’s nice having a lot of work, but ZOMG can I just get the laundry pile to die a quick and painless death? Please?

* An urge to scream “EFF YOU!!!” at my laptop means I need to stop spending so much time surfing the netz. Further bulletins as events warrant.

* It’s supposed to be ninety degrees today. *cries* I’ve closed up the house and am waiting to turn the air conditioner on. I was just not cut out for heat, and San Diego proved it. Wouldn’t you know I’m still writing Kismet books, and they’re set in the desert? I get faint just thinking about it.

* Again, can someone find a way to make the laundry pile stop growing? It’s all the clothes from my week-long trip, plus everyone else’s during my week-long trip, and the ten loads I washed when I got have been folded but replaced with eight more, laundry that piled up while I was washing and folding trying to catch up.

I need a house-elf in the worst way.

Over and out.

Well, if it can comfort you Lili, think about this: you have 90F, here (here being somewhere-near-Venice, Italy) we’ve been having 96-97F with 90% humidity for the past 8 days… *pant* Since yesterday, Alaska has started looking more and more appealing… O_o

Too bad. I have a friend and fantastic writer searching for an agent now. She has this great paranormal thriller–but she’s multi-pubbed in ebooks.

It’s been a steady 106 & 107 and humid here. I HATE this time of year.

I wish it would stop raining here in Toronto. We’ve had more rain in the last two months grrrr and winter comes really fast up here…
I’ll pass on the submissions call :)

By YA do you mean Ms. Telep is only accepting submissions for Young Adult books? I’m attempting to write a novel, but I think it would fall more in the Urban fantasy category rather than YA so then this would not be acceptable as a submission? Sorry, I’m new at this whole writing thing and I’m a bit confused as to how it all works.

[...] And if you happen to be a writer with an unpublished YA novel laying around, Lilith Saintcrow has a lead on an agent who is looking for submissions. [...]

    Dear Ms. Lilith,

I have enjoyed your workd for sometime. I was surprised to see your blog on the TrueBlood/HBO site, but it mades an odd sort of sense.

I have been a member of Ursa Major SCiFi for about 30 yrs or so, and since most of this club, and most attendees at Armadillocon are unpublished writers, if it’s alright with you and your friend, I will make a point of mentioning this submission invitation to the folks I think might write well in that genre.

I am sorry to see that you won’t be a guest at DragonCon this year, but perhaps I will get to see a panel in the future. Sincerely,

    Sara

LOL. *hands you a SPEW badge*

I like to clean. If I were there, I’d do the laundry for you. (For five bucks, muahaha!)
