At The Circus
This is what it was when I went to bed last night:

I did have to cut about 300 incidental words right before bed–repetitions etc. But still, it’s a respectable day’s work. One I hope to rival today.
For those of you who asked, this is the fourth Kismet book, provisionally titled Flesh Circus. The editor doesn’t like that title, but I love it. I think it expresses the book perfectly. We’ve got voodoo (well, voodoo-esque stuff), revenge, families, apprentices, erectile dysfunction (I hate to keep harping on it, but it’s the last theme I had to nail in place), double-dealing, backstabbing, the sins of the fathers–it’s not the kitchen sink but it’s close.
And there’s a circus with a calliope that calls the suicidal to come take their places in the show. I mean, how can you not love this?
Off I go to work. It’s supposed to be almost a hundred degrees today. I’ve closed up the house, will turn the air conditioner on soon, and am already halfway inside another world where the circus has come to town, smelling of sawdust, fried food, animals, cotton candy, cheap perfume.
And where the darkness between the tents holds other things than kissing couples.
*shivers*

Well, even not knowing exactly what the book’s about, I like the title “Flesh Circus”
It’s got just that shade of creepyness to it…

Just want to say, read a short story from this writer in Hotter than Hell, edited by Kim Harrison, whose books I’m addicted to, and bought the entire Danny Valentine series after that. I’m looking forward to more Lilith books, even if after the first read of Working with the Devil, I’m grumpy that the demon boyfriend got iced. Thanks for adding to the Genre, more please!
