Tuesday Link Salad

Good morning, dear Readers. Things are calming down a bit here at Casa Saintcrow. Which is all to the good, since I am not sure I could have handled the stress for much longer without snapping–a process that probably would entail me standing on my head while trying to play a didgeridu. Not very much fun at all.

We’ve engaged legal counsel, and that is the source of my relief. Lawyers are like doctors and police officers to me–I respect the work they do, but I sincerely hope I never have to utilize it. When I do, however, I am relieved that the option is available to me. In any case, having someone who deals with this sort of situation for a living on one’s side is a good thing.

The inside of my head is still hoovered clean from all the worrying about different scenarios. So, in lieu of actual posting (since I’m too empty to come up with anything of complexity or consequence) I offer you a link salad of cool things I found on my f-list this morning.

* Valentine’s Day is coming up. What better way to celebrate than by looking over “love” comics from the 50s? I Was A Ballerina Without Love! I Loved Not Wisely But Too Well! He Wasn’t My Social Equal! The double standard in these covers is almost as glaring and funny as the fraught titles. Enjoy.

* Stephen King on the Kindle. Man, I never thought I’d write THAT sentence.

* Viking women dressed like hoochies! Well, maybe not exactly like hoochies. Maybe just like women of a different culture with different ideas about gender. Once Christianity came along, though, they had to start dressing more “modestly”. Erm, or more like the Christian IDEA of “modesty” in late antiquity. (Don’t you just hate it when gender assumptions and ethnocentrism ruin a perfectly good simple sentence?)

* Cigarette smoke or apparition? YOU make the call.

* Last but not least, authors don’t have to compete just with other authors now. Apparently we also have to compete with soap-opera characters.

*headdesk*

Ah, the Internet. What did I ever do without it?

Tomorrow: I’ve finished a couple of really good books. I might have enough mental energy to blog about them.
