Random Tuesday
In honor of Super Tuesday, a Random Tuesday. (Our election day isn’t until the 19th, but we get mail-in ballots. AWESOME!)
* Not so awesome: this just breaks my heart. It’s a story about how former NFL star Vick’s dogs are doing. Every time a kid or a dog gets hurt, I feel just awful. It’s worse because they’re so vulnerable, and they are also so trusting. Kids and dogs/cats/horses etc. just WANT to trust people. It’s so, so sad and horrible when big people betray that trust.
* Totally awesome: the Smart Bitches readership and their cover snark has been remarked, and Avon has asked them to judge between two covers. Consumer participation at its finest.
* French securities scandal. Is it wrong that I find this so bloody interesting?
* Right now I’m thinking about beauty being in the eye of the beholder. Everything from Miss Piggy saying, “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and it may be necessary from time to time to give a stupid or misinformed beholder a black eye.” to thinking about why wit and intelligence aren’t what immediately draws us to a person. I know we’re at the mercy of Stone Age genetic programming to give our genes the best chance to carry on…but I don’t have to like it. And I wonder how a study could measure the chances of intelligence, humor, and decency–the things I find most attractive–getting into the gene pool.
* I have scads of proof pages to go through this week and it’s already Tuesday. In the words of Bill the Cat, “ACK!”
Have a good Super Tuesday, all. Don’t forget to vote, no matter what date your primaries are on. I know we’re in a mostly-broken two-party system, but there’s still hope within the system. And the best and surest hope is we the people kicking electoral ass and making our voices heard. The more we take an active interest and stance in our political system, the more it will become responsive to OUR needs and not the needs of a few oligarchs in Washington DC.
Hey, it’s the theory our system is built on. For all its flaws in implementation, it’s one I believe in.
