More Monday Questions

This Monday I’m going to do something a little different–answer the questions I get most often from Readers. So here goes!

Where can I find a list of your books?

I get this question every day. The best place to find my paper books is on my Amazon profile. You can also check out my books page. The Books page is under renovation right now, so the Watcher, Society, and Steelflower series isn’t showing up there. But we’re working on it.

Why are you so mean to (insert character name here)?

I beat my characters up. Life’s not fair. At the risk of sounding flippant, neither are any of the worlds I dream up.

Seriously, though…would anyone care about the characters if they had it too easy? The reason why we identify with certain literary creations is because we recognize them and their problems. If it’s too easy, the character is a Mary Sue or Gary Stu, and we forget them as soon as we close the book.

I honestly believe putting characters in extreme situations and having there be real consequences, sometimes bad consequences, is necessary to tell a truthful story.

You didn’t answer my email. You must hate me.

I’m sorry, but I get about fifty emails a day. I try to answer the biggest questions, most often repeated, here on Mondays. But I just can’t keep up without an assistant or making it a full-time job. On the other hand, I’m pretty active in the Saint City Street Fair, and if I can’t answer your question, someone else there probably can.

How do I get ARCs or review copies of new Saintcrow books?

For the Valentine books, you can email Orbit and see if they have any ARCs lying around. For the Watcher books, you can email ImaJinn.

There’s also my newsletter, The Dark Side, where subscription gets you chances to win all sorts of yummy stuff, most recently coffee mugs.

When are the next Valentine books coming out?

The next Dante Valentine book is The Devil’s Right Hand, available in September ’07. After that it’s Saint City Sinners in November ’07, and To Hell and Back in January ’08. Which should keep everyone busy for a little bit. ;)

I’m a budding writer. Will you read my story/screenplay/novel?

I’m swamped right now, between all sorts of editing for the Kismet books (no rest for the wicked) and some other heavy work. All the advice I have about writing you can find in the Writing section of my journal. I used to have time to edit stuff on the side, but unfortunately (or fortunately) I’m being kept busy with writing books and revising them for release. I wish I had time to read more. *sigh*

That’s about all I have time for this week, dear Readers. The website redesign and some other stuff is just about kicking your humble servant’s ass. Next week we have questions dealing with the Devil, the occult, and other hot-button issues, so stay tuned! And have a great Monday. Stay cool out there.
