Sad Updates
No sooner had I finished updating yesterday than I got a call from the DHM. His mum had slipped under, there was swelling in the brain, and there is nothing left to do. It had been too late once she fell.
Currently his mum has been moved to a hospice, and the DHM and his da are watching the body shut down. It is a grueling thing, and very sad. Both of them agree that Mum is gone and the body is merely winding down, but it’s still rough. Your thoughts and prayers for all three of them would be much appreciated.
The DHM is staying in constant contact via cell phone, and doing about as well as can be expected. He says it will all hit him in about a week, which is pretty standard in this type of situation. Both of us are “deal with it now, shake in the watercloset later” type of “handlers.” Meaning we tend to go through the crisis being very calm, and then later have a breakdown. If we were just slightly more type A we’d probably schedule our breakdowns to boot.
Blog entries are going to be kind of thin for a while, as we’re dealing with this transition. Thanks to all who have sent their good wishes and energy, it is much appreciated.

My thoughts and good wishes are with you and your DHM. I was in the same situation almost 10 years ago now with my dad. I was only 23 at the time and it was a really hard time to get through. I wish you and your family well at this painful time.

My thoughts are with you and your DHM. Maybe “scheduling” a breakdown isn’t such a bad idea? You could schedule a date with a counselor at some point, just to have a neutral party to talk to… Anyway, I’m sorry you’re both going through such a difficult time.
