Needle In The Groove

This last weekend was a blast, but also exhausting. The Uptown Village Street Fair was going on, so instead of just working half a day on Saturday I worked pretty much all day Saturday and most of Sunday. Which, in eighty-ninety degree heat, just wiped me out. Last night I could barely keep my eyes open, and didn’t finish the second disc of the first season of 24, which I have made it a mission to watch since I am a fool for Kiefer Sutherland. Don’t laugh. I’ve been down with Kiefer ever since the Lost Boys, okay?

Shut up. Quit laughing. You can laugh later. When I tell you how totally pathetic I am.

I am so pathetic I asked Monk to put the pilot for the WB’s Tarzan on DVD for me, from the VHS promo cassette. Because, you know, I loved that series, especially since they didn’t let Travis Fimmel talk. He just had to stand there. And sniff Sarah Wayne Callies’s hair.

Yeah. Good stuff.

So Monk and I hit the Crush late Saturday night, since he’s been wanting to go something fierce and I’d promised to go with him. We might as well have stayed home with vodka and Firefly. The music was fine, and the bartender didn’t water the drinks. (Thank you, cute boy with earplugs!) The trouble was the crowd didn’t want to dance, and since Monk and I both wanted to get Dionysian, that a problem. In any case, we called it a semi-early night and I realized I had to show up at work again on Sunday.

The street fair was fun. The classic car show on Sunday was a blast in particular–lots of colors and shapes to delight the photographer in me.(Having trouble uploading them, so I’ll link when I can.) There was also a Christian folk-rock group that had a lead singer with pipes of solid brass. She was good. The other musical event of note was Pangur Ban, a sort of rocked-up Celtic group.

Pangur Ban

Aren’t they cute? The piper kicked butt and the violinist (fiddler?) was very good. I don’t have a line on any of their CDs (not even sure if they HAVE CDs) but I enjoyed hearing them and would buy CDs…if they had them. :)

There was more stuff than I can possibly write about. But you get the idea. I was utterly, totally, and in all ways hot and exhausted when I got home. So I just wandered the house staring at random objects for a while before reading a bit more Philip Kerr. Is it wrong to be so totally enchanted by his character Bernard Gunther?

If it is, I don’t wanna be right. Hope your weekend was splendid, dear Readers!
