…Philip Kerr’s The One from the Other–an ARC sent to our bookstore, to be exact, the book comes out September 7. It looked good–Berlin noir, which is a favorite little subgenre of mine.

I’m twenty pages in and can barely put it down to blog about it. The initial prognosis is good. Of course, I finished Freakonomics last night (the Kiwi’s copy) because I couldn’t sleep, and am still reading The Rise of Napoleon Bonaparte, which are both a joy to glide through. So this Thursday’s Revue may well be packed with lovely new shinies.

But right now, Philip Kerr has my attention, and is soothing my ruffled feathers from last night’s heavy insomnia. Sometimes a book just happens along at the right time.
