Dead Man Rising Fiction Contest Winners!

And at last, the announcement we’ve all been waiting for. *grin* Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the Dead Man Rising Fiction Contest winners!

First of all, a huge “Thank You!” to everyone who sent in an entry. I had no idea Danny Valentine’s story had touched you so deeply. There was a last-minute glut of entries, so the final number was more like sixty-five than fifty. Next Monday I will make the PDF download of the winners’ stories available.

So without further ado…

First prize goes to Carla Demich’s Role Models, a story about a little girl on a subway who breaks free of fear by seeing bravery in our favorite Necromance. I enjoyed Carla’s story immensely, and especially liked the ending.

Second prize goes to SueAnne Merrill’s lovely Intermission, telling the ending of Working For The Devil from Japh’s point of view. It made me cry.

And, because I had one more ARC than I thought and the story was so good, the runner-up position goes to Danielle Snyder’s chilling and sexy Trikornus, about the Baron who dresses differently for each visitor, and how Japh’s actions might be viewed in Hell.

These three winners each receive a personally-signed ARC of Dead Man Rising, along with my congratulations and thanks. Their stories, lightly edited for formatting etc., will be available on Monday.

However, that’s not all. I do have to especially mention Stacy Agdern’s Saints and Angels, which could be described as Working For The Devil‘s sweeter twin, and is a fabulous idea I hadn’t considered. What if calling a demon to earth called an angel to balance it out? Unfortunately the angels in Danny’s universe are worse than the demons (hint: they show up in The Devil’s Right Hand.) And last but not least, I must mention Ryan B. Fivecoat’s Bounty’s Run, a day in the life of our favorite Necromance back when she was trying to stay on top of her mortgage payment and going home to Doreen each night. For Ryan and Stacy I have a consolation prize: a personally-signed Working For The Devil ARC for each of you.

For everyone I didn’t mention here: I read every one of your stories, and enjoyed them all. Thank you so much for taking the time to write about Danny’s world. I love telling you my stories and hearing yours in return. Thank you.

In other news, a little birdie just told me that Amazon is now shipping Dead Man Rising, a little bit early. I look forward to hearing what Readers think of Danny’s further adventures.

Have a great weekend, Readers!

Funny-the second I realized I’d won I think I ran around screaming with shock and joy, but I don’t think I ever actually thanked you. Better late than never? **ahem** Anyway, as it was something I wrote almost entirely for pure enjoyment (only a wee bit for avaricious desire) I was really surprised when it won. Thank you so much; it was lovely to write in the incredible universe you created.
